Somerset seamer, Alfie Ogborne has signed a contract extension with the club.
The left-arm seamer will now remain at the Cooper Associates County Ground until at least the end of the 2026 season.
The 21-year-old played his way through the Somerset age group system and was a part of the club’s Emerging Player Programme before joining the Potential Somerset Player Programme in the winter of 2020.
The former Ansford Academy and Richard Huish student, who grew up in Sparkford where he began his cricketing journey, played club cricket for North Perrott as well as representing Dorset before joining WEPL Premier One side Bridgwater CC.
Alfie made his full Somerset List A debut against Durham in the Royal London Cup in 2022 and went on to feature in a total of five matches in that year’s competition, claiming a best of three for 49 against Leicestershire.
He also featured in Somerset’s County Championship fixture against Hampshire at the Cooper Associates County Ground last summer, taking three for 89 in the match.
After signing his extension, Alfie said: “I’m very excited because Somerset is my childhood club and it’s always been a dream of mine to win trophies here. For as long as I can remember, if I think of cricket, I think of Somerset.
“It’s a special place for me and my family and I’ve got so many good memories of watching and playing here already.
“After a good winter of progress and development, I want to show people what I’m capable of. My main goal has to be helping Somerset to win the County Championship. I desperately want to be a part of the team that achieves that. That’s the dream for sure.”
Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry is looking forward to witnessing Alfie’s progression over the next few years. “Everyone has been impressed with the way in which Alfie has transitioned into the professional environment,” he said. “His enthusiasm for the game is incredible and he has a never-ending desire to learn and improve his craft.
“Ahead of him now is a great opportunity to continue his development and progression towards more First XI opportunities across the formats."
