Wembdon remain at the top after edging past Minehead at The Green.

Saturday marked their return to home soil after two back to back away matches.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat first.

Despite some initial hiccups, with opener, Everett, stumped out on the first ball, Wembdon found their footing on home ground.

Love and Anning took to the pitch, the latter striking some early boundaries to relieve the pressure.

The second wicket stand added 43 from 12 overs, breaking the early deadlock.

Unfortunately, Love (27) and Anning (14) were both caught out in quick succession.

This brought the captain, Brockwell, to the crease, partnering with Sri Lankan pro De Zoysa.

The pair scored cautiously through to the drinks break, recouping the innings from 57 for 3 to 100.

In the second half, a stand of 37 saw Brockwell depart for 16.

This opened the door for the threatening Trunks who immediately imposed himself by taking Wembdon past 100 and even 150 in only 9 overs.

Despite insightful efforts in the lower order including a particularly noteworthy 36 from 26 deliveries by Pope, Wembdon's tallied an imposing 230 for 9 from 50 overs.

The young Rucklidge especially stood out as the pick of the Minehead bowlers finishing with 3 for 31.

Minehead’s counter was marked by aggressive play from the top order.

Yet wickets fell steadily in response to Wembdon’s intense accuracy and pressure.

With Sherring caught out and Brockwell claiming his second game wicket, the table was set for Taylors' 21 ball vigil for just one run.

15 overs in, Minehead had reached 50 for 3.

A fleeting fightback championed by James was however short-lived as both De Zoysa and Sellick brought about a flurry of wickets.

Minehead was finally dismissed for 88 in the 33rd over.

De Zoysa emerged as the top bowler taking 4 for 13 from 9 overs.

He fell just short of a remarkable 5 wicket haul, aside Sellick’s brilliant spell of 3 for 14 from 7.1 overs.

With Minehead dispatched, Wembdon retain their top spot but look forward to greater challenges, starting with a match in Taunton next Saturday.
