Taunton Town first team manager Richard Luffman believes Taunton showed some of their ‘best and worst’ pre-season form in their latest warm up game.

The Peacoccks travelled to North Somerset to face Nailsea and Tickenham and came away with a 7-1 win.

Archie Ferris netted a hattrick, Olly Sully scored twice and there were goals for David Duru and Callum English-Brown.

Speaking to the club’s social media channel after the game, First team manager Luffman said: “We probably played some of our best and worst football in pre-season tonight. I thought first 10-15 minutes we struggled to get a hold on the game, the midfield three didn’t quite rotate as planned but the two wide boys were affective when they got it.

“In the first half, the score line flattered them, and in the second half it flattered us.”

Luffman said he was ‘chuffed’ with the result, adding: “We’ve scored seven goals – all the front players seem to be scoring at the moment which is brilliant for confidence.

“We’ve been ruthless towards the end – the score was probably more than it perhaps should have been but its another positive evening’s work and we are learning a lot which is the most important thing.”

Luffman also said there is a ‘real blend’ among the front players after Archie Ferris and Olly Sully scored five of the goals between them.

He added: “That’s going to be really important, the five substitutes are going to massive this year and you look at the sort of profile player we’ve got, the two centre forwards are different – Archie’s big and score’s goals, Dave’s big and quick in behind and you look at the wide players we’ve got real technical players.

“Callum’s goal tonight was unbelievable and Olly scored two late on.”

Luffman paid tribute to Olly Sully’s mentality saying the player wasn’t happy with his own performance, despite scoring twice in a 7-1 win.

“His mentality is absolutely through the roof and he could go on to have a brilliant football career, I have no doubt about that.

“We’re really blessed in the forward areas and once they get to grips with what we want from them going the other way, they’re going to be top, top players.”

The Peacocks were due to face Bristol Manor Farm on Wednesday.
