Taunton Town have further bolstered their squad ahead of the new Southern League season as Eddie Jones joins the club.

The defender made his first appearance for Taunton in Monday (July 22) evening’s friendly at Cribbs and will add a wealth of experience to the backline, having spent the past eight years at National League level with Solihull Moors, Oxford City, Bath City and latterly Chippenham Town for the past two seasons.

The Peacock’s managed to come out on top in Jones’ first game for the club against the team manager Richard Luffman used to manage.

Taunton took the lead on 16 minutes as Olly Sully was fouled on the edge of the box after David Duru had robbed a defender and Sully drilled home the resultant free kick.

The lead was doubled after 33 minutes when Kyrese Morrison knocked down a pass into the path of Duru who advanced to slot past Kyrese Johnson.

A third goal was finally added two minutes into stoppage time as assistant manager Steve Murray netted a penalty after he had been brought down by a Cribbs substitute.

Reacting the signing of Jones, Luffman said: ” Eddie has a top pedigree in the game and on top of his undoubted footballing ability he will provide us with leadership and discipline.

“We have some top young players at the club, but we are a little short in terms of talkers and leaders, which is obvious with a very young group.

“Signing Eddie was something we felt would give us a lift in that area and he’s a solid and proven player at this level and above.”
