Thirty Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club members and their guests participated in the new Club Invitation event, a Better Ball Stableford for men’s, ladies, and mixed pairs, followed by excellent food and camaraderie in the Clubhouse.
The warmer weather and dry course conditions ensured that high scores were returned. Roy Miller and Gary Wide took the men’s prize with 47 points, and Gary Eggle and Lars Donohue were second with 43 points on countback from three other pairs. Marion Beranek and Ann Baxter scored 41 points to win the ladies’ prize.
Nearest the Pin for men on the 8th hole was won by Ron Brown and for all players on the 16th hole by Gary Wide.
Craig McGown with a nett 65 was the winner of the medal round last Wednesday one more than second placed Bruce Chadwick with 66.
Two players carded 68 but after countback it was Ian James who edged in front of Marc Joneswhile Neil Cocks was fourth with 69.
Sunday’s Minor Stableford was won by Stephanie Childs with 40 points two ahead of Ben Childs with 38, while James Olive was third.
T&P Seniors enjoyed two very recent home wins, when they beat Oake Manor 4&2 against Oake Manor and followed with a 5&1 victory against Yeovil.
The Seniors away match against Honiton was called off at the last minute due to heavy rain flooding the course the day before, but then their run of good results finally came to an end earlier this week away at Cricket St Thomas where they suffered a narrow narrow defeat 3.5 to 2.5.
The next open competition at T&P is the Professional’s Open Day that is taking place on Saturday 31st August. The competition will be in pairs of any combination, Men, Ladies or Mixed teams with great prizes, including 2s and a prize draw.
Another date for the diary is the Musgrove Charity Cup Pairs on Sunday 22nd September, which will be a pairs betterball Stableford of any mix of members or visitors, ladies and men with all proceeds going to Musgrove Park Hospital.
