OLYMPIC debutant Annie Campbell-Orde is competing for Team GB as part of the Women’s Eight rowing team on Monday (July 29), with the team hoping to make everyone proud.

Campbell-Orde and the rest of the British team have been put in Heat One for their campaign and have the difficult task of beating current champions from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Canada.

Four members of the winning Canada squad in Tokyo have returned - Kasia Gruchalla-Wesierski, Kristen Kit, Sydney Payne and Avalon Wasteneys - all of whom will be hoping to add to their medal collections in Paris.

Team GB also have Denmark and Australia in their Heat which will by no means be an easy challenge.

Competing for Nottingham Rowing Club at club level, Campbell-Orde, 28, grew up in Wells.

Her career started by playing netball at Millfield before going on to Loughborough University to try and play internationally.

After university, she started rowing at Nottingham Rowing Club and trialled for GB for a few years but was never quite able to break through into the senior team.

The soon-to-be Olympian was on the verge of giving up in 2022, before giving it one last shot by spending her time learning at Leander Club.

This is where Campbell-Orde finally achieved her dream of putting on the Team GB kit and racing, making her full competition debut in 2023.

Campbell-Orde will be one of 50 per cent of GB rowers making their Olympic debuts this year, with a total of 23 women and 19 men competing for the nation.

If you want to watch the Wells-born Olympian’s attempt to win gold, then you can tune in to BBC One on July 29 at 11am, with Olympics coverage from 8am.
