Archie Vaughan, who has signed a two year contract to join the county as a full time professional in the autumn after graduating from the Academy, made his Somerset debut in the Metro Bank One Day Cup match against Kent on Friday evening.
During the course of the Kent innings the 18 year old right handed batter off spinner bowled six overs that cost just 16 runs as Kent were bowled out for 267, making him the most economic of the Somerset attack.
However when he batted Archie had the mis fortune of being run out at the non strikers end without facing a ball, when Andy Umeed drove the ball straight back down the pitch where it was touched onto the stumps by bowler Charlie Stobo meaning that the young batter who was backing up and out of his ground was run out.
Straight after the match Archie talked about his Somerset debut.
“It was unreal to be put there playing in front of the crowd- it felt a bit weird but it was good and hopefully I get a bit more of it.
“To be honest I I wasn’t really expecting to bowl but I’m pretty happy with the way that it went for me out there. I got the call and kept it simple and it went pretty well for me.
“I don’t seem to get nervous with my bowling and it takes the pressure off my batting, so I just did my job and was happy.”
Regarding his short innings Archie said: “ I definitely want a bit more with the bat - I’ve never been out like that before and it was really frustrating, but its onwards and upwards with the batting.”
Archie played against Hampshire on Sunday and scored nine from 20 balls and is expected to play at Durham on Wednesday.
