Longstanding director Brian Pollard has become the new chairman of Taunton Town Football Club following a board meeting.

He has been a director of the club since 2011 and replaces Kevin Sturmey who was not re-elected by Taunton Town FC members at the recent AGM.

Brian said:” I’m very honoured to be elected as Chairman of Taunton Town Football Club.

"I’ve been a supporter since a young boy and when a player had the ambition to play for the club, it was not to be.

"As a referee when our past President Tom Harris was Chairman, training here every week was a pleasure and refereeing the pre-season games was something to look forward to.

"I was brought onto the board some 13 years ago and held the position of facilities director, with the Vice-Chairman role coming some years later.

"Now as chairman I’ve got to do the best I can for the club. The supporters and sponsors keep this club afloat and at the helm the new board of directors along with Karl Lindsay will I’m sure bring success sooner rather than later.”

Two other appointments have also been made involving recent additions to the Board.

Long-serving former goalkeeper Lloyd Irish, who has made nearly 400 appearances for the club, becomes the new vice-chairman and Jackie Cottey is appointed as company secretary.

Lloyd remarked: “It’s a great honour to have been elected as Vice-Chairman of Taunton Town Football Club, a club that means so much to me personally.

"After retiring from football I was keen to remain at the club to try and give something back and to help push the club to where it should be both on and off the pitch.

"Having seen how hard the board and Karl work on a daily basis it’s a really exciting project to be involved in. There is a real positive feel about the club at the moment and we want to continue to build on this.”
