As part of the club’s annual family fun day, children were given the chance to ‘take over’ the Cooper Associates County Ground during their Metro Bank Cup clash with Derbyshire.

In collaboration with Somerset Cricket Foundation, the club invited junior members and young players to the match and let them take over a number of matchday roles. These included:

  • Commentator
  • Live match blogger
  • Journalist
  • DJ
  • Livestream camera operator
  • Live stream director
  • Reporter
  • Scorer
  • Photographer
  • Big screen/scoreboard operator

The day was hailed a great success by the club, with lots of children getting the opportunity to experience what life is like on a busy matchday.

SCCC Head of Digital, Ben Warren, who was one of the driving forces behind the event said: “Working alongside Somerset Cricket Foundation, we wanted to build on the success of our annual Family Day by allowing some of our young Members and supporters to get a hands-on experience of what it’s like behind the scenes on a busy matchday.

“We are always looking at ways in which we can create added value for our fans and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to enable us to do just that.

“We pride ourselves on being a welcoming Club, and family is very much at the heart of everything that we are trying to achieve. All the children involved did a fantastic job and it was great to see them having such a good time. It was lovely to see Bodhi joining Harry Everett on commentary, and all of them helped us to deliver a brilliant matchday experience.”
