A horseracing ownership marketplace has set up in Taunton, and is looking to establish themselves nationally.
Equine Sales is a marketplace for racehorse ownership, connecting new buyers with trusted syndicates.
The company currently has three horses and is expanding its marketplace.
Their first client was Nigel Hawke and Catherine, his wife, based in Tiverton. And they are seeking to attract people to their stables.
Managing director and co-founder Raymond Kitchen said: “Our mission is to attract new audiences to the sport by democratising racehorse ownership to break-down exclusivity barriers through fractional ownership models.
“We emphasise emotional connections with horses and the sporting spectacle, along with the ancient skill of horsemanship. Stable days offer a unique insight into horse training.
“Taunton Racecourse is well-established and hosts various meetings throughout the year.
“While some see it as a fun day out, many associate it solely with betting. Ownership offers a different perspective on the sport, providing insights into training and building a community of fellow owners while enjoying the thrill of the sport itself.
“Nigel offers an excellent opportunity for people/families/couples in this area to try something a little different.
“By selling directly at racecourses, we engage with the community and educate them about the essence of ownership—focused on experience, not just investment. We believe racehorse ownership offers meaningful experiences in a consumer-driven world.”
Raymond grew up in Glamington and attended Parkfield, Castle and Richard Huish schools, playing football for Taunton Town U18s.
He said it was while caring for horses in Mexico that he began to understand the animals. He has now teamed up with university friend and business partner Tom Davis to launch Equine Sales and after two months it became Raymond’s full time job.
