The Seniors Section of Enmore Park Golf Club hosted the Enmore Stag Trophy competition last week, a Club Championship for senior men over 60.
Fourteen local clubs entered teams of eight players, beginning with a "shotgun" start at 09:30. The whole course was utilised until 3 p.m., after which players returned to the clubhouse for drinks and to be served a carvery meal and dessert.
Blessed with excellent weather, the final scores were very close, but Taunton and Pickeridge won with 161 points.
Afterwards, in the clubhouse, Ray Hancock received special mention and a round of applause. He had virtually single-handedly run the Stag since its conception before his sad passing recently.
Another very popular club competition, the Jubilee Trophy, a mixed event with a draw for partners and two scores counting on each hole, took place on Sunday.
This is always a keenly contested trophy, and the glorious playing conditions meant good scoring from everyone on the day. In the end, the winners with an impressive 87 points were Mo Veale, Colin Galbraith, and Nicola Thompson, eight shots ahead of second-placed Edward Ingram, Angie Bowden, and David Rogers.
Enmore Seniors hosted Clevedon for their Senior match. After a brief light shower, everyone went on to enjoy a friendly game that ended in a 3-3 draw.
Winning teams were Martin Smith with Keith Norcutt, Gordon Baxter with Ben Gliddon and Jess Lawrence with Gary Thompson.
Nearest the pin was won by Martin Smith, who received a sleeve of golf balls.
Wendy Walker, with a net 68, won the Ladies President's Putter 18-hole Medal on Wednesday. Two players returned with 71, but after counting back, Nanette Moore was second, just ahead of Jackie Woodman.
Claire Down won the Ladies Individual 9 Hole Stableford, two ahead of second-placed Gwen Cavill, with Linda Anniss third on 18.
Saturday’s stableford was won by Malcolm McNairn with 42 points, two ahead of Angus Jones with 40. Edward Ingram was third, but only after a countback edged him ahead of Julie Ingram after both returned with 39.
Tony Seaman won Tuesday's Summer League (Week 18 ) with 25 points, but only after a countback put him ahead of Neil Wicks, who returned with the same score, and George Alexiou, with 24.
