It was Finals Day at Wedmore Golf Club as 10 knockout competitions played over the summer reached their conclusion.

The finals, which took place over two days, began on Friday with the Seniors Summer Plate.

Peter Laney started strong, but Brad Speller fought back to win comfortably 6&5.

The Frank Edwards Cup, the club's singles trophy played over 36 holes, was also contested on Friday.

Club captain Dave Bedford struggled to find his form against Mike Garbutt, who emerged as the winner.

On Saturday, Dave Bedford returned to compete in the Wilks Trophy, the seniors singles competition.

This match was more closely contested, but Jim Vearncombe eventually triumphed 3&2.

A family affair followed, with an under-the-weather Steve Major taking on Rob Major for the Bill Lander Trophy, the higher handicap singles trophy.

Steve was not at his best, losing 5&4.

The ladies then took to the course, with Cathy Olive facing off against Lyn Bird for the Macarthur Trophy in a repeat of last year's final.

While Cathy had won last year, this time Lyn secured a 3&2 victory.

The second division of the Macarthur saw Karen Clark face Jenny Thomas.

Jenny secured an early lead and Karen was unable to close the gap, with Jenny winning 4&2.

The first pairs competition was the mixed greensomes for the Guys n’Gals Trophy.

Annie Patten and John Cutter took an early lead and extended it against Sandy Bedford and Kev Osman to win 6&5.

The seniors greensomes was the closest match of the day, with Peter Roberts and Brad Speller maintaining an early lead to win 3&1 against Mark Cross and Martin Peakman.

In the ladies' Crandon Cup, Eunice Bond and Bev Broad, despite giving shots to Jane Hewitt and Joan Peck, won comfortably 4&3.

The men's competition for the Peter Hathaway Trophy is the only four-ball better-ball competition.

Rod Stewart and John Wormald were all square after the front nine with Greg Cox and Mark Sweeting but pulled ahead to end the day with a 4&3 win.

The finals marked the end of a summer of intense competition at Wedmore Golf Club.
