Wiveliscombe secured their third victory of the season in comfortable fashion over Tavistock.

Despite not being at their best, Wiveliscombe managed to overcome a Tavistock side that has struggled to settle this season.

Tavistock surprised the home team early on, with fly-half Chris Watts setting up centre Ethan Lamerton for a try in the first minute, which Watts converted.

Wiveliscombe gradually found their rhythm, with centre Tom Pearce scoring their only try of the first half.

Dan Quick, returning to the team, added the conversion and a penalty, giving Wiveliscombe a slight lead of 10-7 at half-time.

In the second half, Wiveliscombe began to find their footing.

Number 8 Daniel Smythe-Moore scored Wiveliscombe's second try, with Quick adding another conversion.

Quick also added his second penalty of the game, extending the lead to 20-7.

Tavistock's Freddie Fuller crossed for their second try, with Soco O'Connor adding the conversion to reduce Wiveliscombe's lead to 20-14.

However, Wiveliscombe played their best rugby in the last quarter, adding another three tries.

Centre Paddy Holyday scored before leaving the field with a leg injury, bringing the score to 25-14.

Two impressive moves from Wiveliscombe's backs allowed left-wing Lucas Irvine to outpace the visitors' defence, scoring two tries to secure the bonus point victory.

Quick added his third conversion, sealing the match at 37-15.

Wiveliscombe now sit in fifth position in the Western Counties West league.

Looking ahead, Wiveliscombe's first XV will face St Ives away in a league match on October 12, while the second XV will play against Hornets at home, with kick-off at 2.30pm.

This victory marks Wiveliscombe's third win of the 2024/25 season, continuing their strong start.
