Taunton Town manager Richard Luffman has praised Amersham Town for giving the Peacocks a tough game at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium on Saturday (September 28).
Town defeated Amersham Town 2-1 in the FA Cup third qualifying round after coming from behind.
Luffman, speaking to the club’s media, said he was impressed with the standard of the opposition.
He said: “A huge congratulations to Amersham, I thought they were an absolute credit. They worked their absolute socks off for the manager, the football club.
“They scored a wonderful goal – you can see why Jake has scored the goals that he has – they were a proper nuisance to us today.
“We’ve played a lot of step 5 teams in pre-season and the cup final with Brislington and I’ve managed at that level and never found it as difficult as that playing against teams so huge credit to them.
“We’ve got through but the congratulations need to go to them.”
Luffman said Amersham probably shaded the first half but Taunton took control in the second half.
Goals from Tom Purrington and Morgan Lewis sealed the turn around.
He said: “Second half we built the pressure and it was an important time to score and for about 15 minutes it looked like we were going to score every time we went forwards.
“I think on the balance of play, we were rewarded with our win.”
The manager also paid tribute to the Peacocks’ fans, with more than 800 packing into the Cygnet Health Care Stadium.
He said: “We’ve doubled the attendance from Tuesday (against Swindon Supermarine) and I think everyone has enjoyed their afternoon and the supporters were absolutely different class.”
Taunton Town are in FA Trophy action this weekend as they welcome Basingstoke to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium.
The Peacocks then have their FA Cup fourth qualifying round fixture a week later before finally returning to league action against Merthyr Town on October 15.
