It was goals galore for Somerset men's U16 team, who emerged victorious from their trip to Oxfordshire in the Southwest County Championships.

Captain Beau Bird set the tone for the match, making an electric run that led to a high-quality finish from Evan Chappell, putting the away side ahead.

A similar move doubled their lead shortly after, with Bird assisting Chappell once more.

Somerset's defence, comprising Alfie Burr, Olly Turner, Tommy Nairn, and JJ Lowe, proved solid, also launching counter-attacks.

Despite conceding a goal to the hosts, Somerset regained control and Tommy Nairn scored a superb strike from outside the box, making it 3-1.

The team's work rate was commendable, with Freddie Williams, Harry Williams, Ferran McAdams, and Bird working harmoniously to deny the opposition any foothold.

JJ Lowe's distribution led to another goal from Chappell, who completed his hat-trick, making the score 4-1 before half time.

In the second half, Woody Cole, in fine form, scored another goal for Somerset, bringing the score to 5-1.

The home team, though, managed to get a penalty, which left Somerset's goalkeeper Charlie Hopkins with no chance.

Somerset quickly regained their momentum, with Jack Milford crossing for Zack Holcombe, who scored Somerset's sixth goal.

Somerset had further chances, but Oxfordshire scored a third goal, making it 6-3.

Woody Cole, however, completed Somerset's scoring and his brace, finishing the match at 7-3.

Captain Beau Bird was voted man of the match for his all-around performance.
