Taunton Town’s FA Cup journey has come to an end after suffering a 3-0 defeat at National League Maidenhead United in their fourth qualifying round replay.
The Peacocks had shown excellent ability and character to force a replay against their opponents from two leagues above, and were never out of the replay until two added time goals put the tie out of touch.
Ultimately, it was Maidenhead United who go into the first round proper where they face League One Crawley Town.
For the trip to Berkshire, manager Richard Luffman made three changes, with Harris Feltham, Opi Edwards and Archie Ferris all coming in for Tom Purrington, Owen Brain and Aysa Corrick.
Much like the first game, Maidenhead looked to press their two-league advantage early and got their reward on four minutes when Tobi Sho-Silva opened the scoring.
The hosts had a number of corners early on, and from another one on 13 minutes, Archie Moulden did well to block a shot from Reece Smith.
Maidenhead were clearly on top in the first half but Taunton were doing everything possible to stay in the game. On 16 minutes a free kick by the home side resulted in another corner and from that a shot was blocked by Archie Ferris.
Two minutes later the hosts were awarded a penalty for a foul by Ollie Woodhouse but Adam Parkes produced a save to keep the score at 1-0.
As the half wore on Taunton Town started to create opportunities, with Harris Feltham send a free kick past the Maidenhead goal.
Another couple Maidenhead United corners followed with Archie Ferris and Toby Down doing the defending once again/
Taunton Town nearly got level just before half time but a Tom Smith free kick hit the woodwork and score remained 1-0 at half time.
In the second half, the Peacocks had the ball in the back of the net on 53 minutes but the flag was up for offside.
Four minutes later Archie Ferris took a shot which was saved by Maidenhead goalkeeper Craig Ross.
The Peacocks started the press for that equaliser and Luffman made a couple changes with David Duru and Tom Purrington coming on for Archie Ferris and Harris Feltham. A couple minutes later Tom Smith had another opportunity, but his effort was over the bar.
On 70 minutes Tom Smith was just denied the equaliser again and after that the game became stretched as Taunton pushed for the equaliser.
However, two minutes into eight added on for stoppages, Maidenhead added to their lead with Ruben Carvalho scoring. Within a minutes it was 3-0 as Sam Barrett scored.
That’s how it finished leaving the Peacocks eliminated from the FA Cup. The Peacocks still have some cup football this season as they are in the first round of the Isuzu FA Trophy and will also now focus on trying to secure promotion from the Southern League Premier South.
