Taunton Town assistant manager Steve Murray said there is ‘nothing behind’ back-to-back 5-1 defeats for the Peacocks.

Speaking after Town were dumped out of the FA Trophy at Gosport, he told the club’s media that the third goal was the turning point and that they ‘let Gosport off the hook’ after a dominant first half.

He said: “It’s a really difficult one to take after all the control we had a half time.

“We said at half time that they were going to come out at us and we’d expect that but we lost all control and obviously off the back of Tuesday (a 5-1 defeat in the league to Totton) and when it happens twice in a week it can’t be an accident.”

He said in the first half it was going well with Jayden Nielsen scoring the opening goal.

“We hit the post, it was complete domination. Honestly, I was so pleased with how we played – the combination play, the energy, the effort, so caused them so many problems, we looked a threat from set pieces, and said to the lads at half time we let them off the hook a little bit. We should have hunted the second and the third and it’s come back to bite us.”

He said ‘there’s nothing behind’ Taunton conceding 10 goals in two games. He added: “The games have both just got away from us. I think defensively we are strong and I think the turning point was the third goal.”
