SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH: TAUNTON TOWN 1-1 BRACKNELL TOWN
The spoils were shared between Taunton Town and Bracknell Town on a dull afternoon at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium on Saturday (November 2).
The 1-1 draw between the sides brings to an end a run of defeats for the Peacocks which has seen them lose 5-1 in successive matches.
Tom Smith had put Taunton Town in front against Bracknell at the Cygnet but substitute Remy Coddington equalised for the visitors.
Bracknell Town came into the game on a 10-match unbeaten run in the league while Taunton had an October to forget – exiting both the FA Cup and FA Trophy as well as conceding 10 goals to two games.
Taunton Town made four changes for the game from their 5-1 defeat at Gosport in the FA Trophy, with new signing Joshua Gould, Tom Purrington, Jay Malshanskyj and Morgan Lewis coming in for Adam Parkes, Eddie Jones, Aysa Corrick and David Duru who has left the club.
Goal attempts were at a premium in the first 20 minutes with both sides trying to establish themselves in possession.
The first big chance of the game came on 36 minutes when Taunton broke quickly down the left and Jayden Nielsen found Tom Smith in the box and he was able to lay it back to the edge of the box but Jack Matthews blazed over.
A couple minutes later Jay Malshanskyj tried to place one in the bottom corner, but Bracknell stopper Michael Eacott got down low to save and he was quick to react to stop Alfie Moulden converting the rebound from close range.
Taunton did break the deadlock on the stroke of half time though, as a long kick from new Taunton goalkeeper Joshua Gould was flicked on by Toby Down and fell to Tom Smith in the box who was able to fire across the goalkeeper into the corner of the net.
The Peacocks came out in the second half looking to press home their advantage with Aldie Moulden curling on just wide of the post and Purrington firing over from the edge of the area.
The second half became a stop-start affair with injuries on both sides – Jayden Nielsen was subbed off for new signing Joshua Owers on 66 minutes.
Three minutes later Bracknell were level as a missed interception allowed the ball to be fed through to Remy Coddington, who came on as a substitute five minutes earlier.
Both sides tried to push for a winner and Taunton had a couple opportunities during eight minutes of stoppage time, but the score remained 1-1 at full time.
