Somerset County Cricket Club are inviting female seam and spin bowlers from across the UK to attend a trial day at the Cooper Associates County Ground later this autumn with with the potential opportunity their women’s team.
The trials, will allow talented players to showcase their skills and potentially earn a place in the Somerset Women’s squad.
There has recently been rapid growth in women’s cricket and Somerset are are committed to finding out and understanding the talent that exists beyond the existing regional structure.
The Club wants to offer opportunities to players who may not have had the chance to be seen by professional clubs before, or who may have developed later within their cricketing journey.
As the talent pool continues to expand, we aim to cast a wider net beyond our traditional South West catchment area.
These trials will provide players with a platform to showcase their skills in front of our professional coaching team and potentially take the next step toward a career in professional cricket.
To be eligible for the trials:
- Players must not be currently playing County Age Group cricket.
- Players cannot be involved in another Tier One Professional team, EPP or Academy.
- This trial is intended for cricketers who demonstrate potential but have yet to engage with a formal professional cricket structure.
Specifically Somerset CCC are looking for-
Spin Bowlers:
- A bowling action that facilitates spin and maximises energy on the ball.
- Ability to maximise spin with stock deliveries.
- The ability to deceive batters both in the air and off the pitch.
- A desire to spin the ball hard and consistently look to take wickets.
Seam Bowlers:
- A bowling action that facilitates pace
- An ability to move the ball off the seam and in the air.
- Ability to use variations to create indecision in batters and create wicket opportunities.
- A desire to bowl fast and consistently look to take wickets.
To be considered for the trials, players must submit the following information:
Full Name
Date of Birth
Current Club/County involvement
An overview of your background within cricket
Video footage of primary skill (preferably in-game)

Once reviewed against the above skills criteria, suitable applicants will be invited to attend the trial day at The Cooper Associates County Ground on Friday 15th November where Somerset’s professional coaching staff will observe players in person.
All players that apply and attend will receive detailed feedback on the outcome of their decision.
