Wiveliscombe 1stXV narrowly lost to Plymstock Oaks in a tightly contested Western Counties match.

Plymstock, currently top of the league, played against fifth-placed Wiveliscombe at the Wivey Recreation Ground, resulting in a final score of 15-12.

The match saw Wiveliscombe's forwards dominating their opponents, while Plymstock's back three consistently posed a threat.

Wiveliscombe's defence, however, remained strong, restricting the visitors to just two tries, one in each half.

Plymstock took an early lead with a penalty conversion following a high tackle by Wiveliscombe.

Wiveliscombe then retaliated with a try from centre Paddy Holyday and a conversion by fullback Will Thorne.

They extended their lead with a second try by second row Rory Stone, after pressure from their pack.

Plymstock's backs continued to create opportunities, and fullback Alex Chapman scored a try just before half-time.

The second half saw both teams playing commendably, but defences held firm, with only one try scored by Plymstock's left-winger Joe Brearly.

Centre Lewis Riley converted the try, bringing the final score to 15-12.

Wiveliscombe had a late chance to equalise, but the penalty was missed.

In other matches, Wiveliscombe 2ndXV overwhelmed Weston-super-Mare's third team in a league encounter at Plain Pond.

The home team scored a staggering 17 tries, with Tom Lally crossing the line four times, Isaacs Hines three times, and Lucus Irvine twice.

Eight other players managed to score one try each.

Hugh Harris converted seven tries, with Lucas Irvine and Tom Lally kicking two each.

Wiveliscombe's 2ndXV now sit at the top of their league, with six wins from six games, finishing the match with a score of 105-0.

Wiveliscombe Colts also had a successful match against Tor Colts on Friday night at Plain Pond, winning 64-17.

The Colts crossed for six tries, with Lewis May scoring three, and Ollie Standbury and Jack Lee adding two each.

Luke Barrington, Kaydon Bush, Bertrand Thorne, Haydon Sweet, and Rhys Langdon all managed to score a try each.

Upcoming fixtures on November 16 include Wiveliscombe 1stXV against Bideford 1stXV, and Wiveliscombe 2ndXV against Yeovil 2ndXV.

On Friday, November 15, Wiveliscombe Colts will face North Petherton Colts in an evening league match.
