Minehead Hockey Club women’s first team clinched a thrilling comeback victory against Sidmouth & Ottery.
The match, on Saturday, started with vibrant energy as Minehead displayed immediate attacking intent.
However, it was Sidmouth & Ottery who drew first blood, taking the lead with a well-executed short corner, putting Minehead at a 1-0 disadvantage.
Unfazed, Minehead rallied and fortified their defence against Sidmouth's persistent attacks.
Minehead's solid defensive work bore fruit as they successfully repelled further advances from Sidmouth, allowing them to regroup, regain possession, and craft their own attacking plays.
After halftime, Minehead began to find their rhythm.
A series of strategically executed short corners led to the equaliser.
Gemma Chilcott pushed the ball out to Hannah Cornish, who slid it to Jess Koppa, who calmly slotted it home, levelling the score at 1-1.
Minehead maintained the pressure and were soon rewarded with a second goal.
Gemma, demonstrating excellent vision and power, delivered a strong ball into the D, where Morgan Cooper was perfectly positioned to make a quick touch and score, putting Minehead ahead with a 2-1 lead.
Sidmouth & Ottery continued to battle, but Minehead's defence stood resolute, preserving their lead until the final whistle.
The victory showcased Minehead's resilience and teamwork throughout the contest.
The West Somerset Railway Player of the Match was a shared between Gemma and Jess, both of whom were instrumental in the victory.
