Taunton Town manager Richard Luffman said he was ‘immensely proud’ of his side’s performance as the Peacocks sealed a draw at Dorchester Town.

Going into the game on the back of a two-week break, Town took the lead through Owen Brain but were eventually pegged back.

Speaking to the club’s media after the game, Richard Luffman was pleased with what he saw from his side.

He said: “It was a good performance. They are a really top side, they use the ball well and have got a couple players who are better than the level. So all in all, really pleased with a point.”

Taunton Town came into this game on the back of a 3-0 defeat at Wimborne last time out.

“We we’re on the back on a really tough performance last time down in Dorset and we’ve worked heavily on our defensive structure and being harder to beat and more resolute mixed in with good football and I think we showed that in spells today,” said Luffman.

The manager credited goalscorer Owen Brain after the draw, adding: “I think we signed an unbelievably good player; he showed glimpses of that at Gloucester and in pre-season and he’s been a bit injury-hit since then. This two-week break has allowed him to get a bit fitter.

“Him and Tom Smith linked up really well.”

He also said Taunton did not want to ‘sit in’ at Dorchester Town, adding: “We wanted to go back at them with our bits of quality and we were front-footed, we pressed well from the back and all the way through the thirds and eventually we’ve scored a great goal and it’s taken a wonder goal to get them a point.

“It was a disciplined performance and one I am immensely proud of.”

Luffman admitted that Dorchester probably edged the second half.

“They’re the home side, they had the impetus probably the last 15-20 minutes. We got down the sides once and were a ball bounce away from Tom Smith connecting and winning us the game.

“I think both sides cancelled each other out second half.”

After three months in charge, Luffman said things are going well but believes things can still improve.

He said: “We feel like we’re going to better in the second half of the season. But it’s a brilliant football club.”
