National League One: Macclesfield 31 Taunton Titans 55

The 400-mile round trip up north was rewarded for Taunton Titans who included several young players in their squad, relishing their chance to make a mark at senior level.

A dry but damp and overcast day was a contrast from the week before when snow led to the match being postponed, writes Hugh Duder.

Taunton opened the scoring in the second minute after good hands by Conor Banks for Lucas Yapp to go in for a converted try 0-7.

Titans went in again inside five minutes when Rocky Prowse sprinted clear for a converted try. 0-14.

Try number three came in the ninth minute when Archie Spokes single handedly stole the ball at the back of the lineout. 0-19.

In the 14th minute, Macclesfield got into the game with their right-wing Sam Adu bundling over 7-19.

The first scrum of the game after four tries had been scored. An interception by the home side led to Macclesfield’s second try. 12-19.

On 34 minutes, Titans secured their bonus point try scored by Oscar Kalowski after receiving a long pass out from Louie Sinclair. 12-24.

Three minutes later, there was a break by Nick Mason who off-loaded to Charlie Kassapian who went in under the posts and Titans led 12-31 at half time.

Four minutes after the re-start, Titans scored a converted try through centre Ben Heath, his first score for the Titans. 12-38.

On the hour mark, Louie Sinclair converted a penalty to make it 19-41, giving Titans breathing space in this high-scoring encounter.

Four minutes later, Macclesfield scored a converted try. 26-41.

A neat pick up by Reece Malone gained territory for the Titans with 11 minutes remaining. A penalty to the corner led to a try for Sam Prior converted by Louie Sinclair. 26-48.

The try of the day was scored on 73 minutes when Ben Heath broke away inside his own 22 and fed Oscar Kolowski who went over for his second try. 26-55.

A pulsating and entertaining game ended with the home side scoring the final try on the whistle. 31-55.

Titans now sit second on the table. Next up is a home game against Redruth on Saturday (December 7). 3pm kick off at Veritas Park.
