SOMERSET have released medium-fast bowler Andy Sutton.
The 22-year-old played for MCC Young Cricketers in 2005-6 and joined the staff after impressing while playing for Gloucestershire in a 2nd XI Championship match against Somerset at Taunton CC in May 2007.
Sutton played in six championship games for Somerset 2nds last summer, taking 14 wickets at an average of 32 and was awarded a one-year contract for the 2008 season.
This summer, Sutton has played in ten 2nd XI Championship matches, bowled 189.4 overs, 38 of which were maidens and taken 23 wickets at an average of 29.65, with a best return of six for 96 After the announcement was made Sutton said: “I have really enjoyed my time with the county and to have had a contract at one of the best clubs in the country has been fantastic.
“Sadly it has now come to an end, but that is the way with cricket.”
WICKETKEEPER Carl Gazzard has signed a new one-year contract with Somerset.
Gazzard made one Championship appearance in 2008 and played in the final Pro40 match.
