HOME pairing Adrian Keates and Roger Howard were the winners of Musgrove Cup Charity Day at Taunton Vale Golf Club with a score of 40 points.

However they only claimed first spot after countback put them ahead of mixed/ladies section winners Sarah Rendell and Lee Lewis.

Four pairings scored 39 points at the head of the men’s competition, but after countback it was Graham Bagwell and P Callard - both sponsors - who came out on top from Vale golfers Paul Roderick and Andy Roff.

Third place went to club professional Martin Keitch and Mike Nicholas (sponsor), while Vale pairing Rob Hodge and Steve Cridge were fourth.

The 40 points gained by Rendell and Lewis in the Mixed/Ladies competition put them two points ahead of four groups.

After countback Maggie and Alan Palmer were second, Graham Coles and Shanni Whisler third, Lesley Wills (Wheathill) and Heather Kerr Wilbur fourth and Stevie Foster and Jerry Maxwell fifth.

Kevin Lewis with 40 points was the winner of Division One in the following day’s Stableford, but only after countback edged him in front of Rob Loder. Frank Penny was third with 39.

Gary Bunney headed Division Two with 43 points, Chris Sealey was second with 41 and Brian Davis third on 40.

Philip Martin won Division Three with 41 points. He was five ahead of Mark Hill who claimed second spot after countback put him ahead of James Luton.

The Ladies Section’s Bill Webb Trophy was won by Jeannie Leader with 34 points, one ahead of second placed Jane Attwood, while Anne Reid was third with 32.

Betty Norman won the Freshline Foods competition with 37 points, but only after countback over the final three holes put her in front of Paula Cheek.

Carole Paterson was third with 35 points and Pam Berry fourth on countback with 34.
