SOMERSET players have featured in both of England Under-19s’ opening games at the World Cup under way at Townsville in Australia.

In England’s opening match of the tournament on Saturday, both Jamie and Craig Overton played their part, but despite their contributions the team lost out to Australia by six wickets.

England were bowled out for 143 in 38.3 overs with Craig, batting at No5 making 35 off 81 balls, while twin brother Jamie chipped in with 14 off 13 balls lower in the order.

It was very much an Overton family affair when Australia batted. Jamie claimed 2-34 off his eight overs - both caught by brother Craig.

After slipping to 9-2, the hosts recovered to reach 147-4 off 35.1 overs.

There were three Somerset players involved in Sunday’s match between England and Ireland, also at Townsville.

Ireland were all out for 109 in 42.2 overs, of which Irish skipper George Dockrell made 26 off 55 balls batting at seven.

Craig Overton claimed 1-11 from his five overs and also had a hand in two run outs.

England in reply reached 113 comfortably. Craig, batting at No4, made 26 not out off 91 balls and shared in an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 55 with Aneesh Kapil (31 not) to see England to a seven wicket victory with 13.4 overs to spare.

England Under-19s are next in action when they play Nepal on Thursday morning.
