Minehead Under-13s 11-a-side team secured runners-up spot in the county league for the first time with a seven wicket defeat of Wedmore.

The results capped an excellent week for the club following the news that a £50,000 grant has been awarded by West Somerset District Council for a new club pavilion.

Minehead captain Jordan Baker asked Wedmore to bat on a pitch with a very long outfield and they responded with 65-3 off their 20 overs against a very tight, efficient but noticeably nervous Minehead team. With a smaller outfield the score would have been more like 100.

Pick of the bowlers were Joe Ferris – who took 1-3 in four overs – for Elliott Binding and Jamie Savage.

At one stage of their reply Minehead were 31-3 but vice captain James Gregory then joined keeper Archie Marsh and they kept their cool to put on 35 unbeaten runs and see their side home with seven overs to spare.

The highlight of Marsh’s knock was a hook for six off his nose.
