BRITISH No1 Lucy Shuker won her fourth ITF 1 women’s doubles title of 2012 as she completed her build-up before the London 2012 Paralympics at the Belgian and the Salzburg Open.

She was also a singles quarter-finalist in both tournaments.

Shuker, from Ash Priors near Bishops Lydeard, partnered Belgium’s Annick Sevenans to a second Belgian Open doubles title for the duo in three years.

The top seeds opened their account with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Sabine Ellerbrock (Germany) and Dorrie Timmermans (Netherlands) before another closely fought match saw them defeat Louise Hunt (Great Britain) and Emmy Kaiser (Netherlands) 7-5, 6-3.

Shuker and Sevenans then stepped up their game to beat second seeds Elena Jacinto (Spain) and Katharina Kruger (Germany) 6-1, 6-2 in the final.

Shuker, the World No9, won her first ITF 1 singles title at the Belgian Open in 2010, but was unable to regain that title this year.

After dropping just one game to Frenchwoman Charlotte Famin in her opening match she bowed out 6-1, 7-5 to World No5 Marjolein Buis (Netherlands).

It was another world top five ranked player that ended Shuker’s singles campaign at the quarter-final stage of the Salzburg Open.

Another comfortable start saw Shuker beat Italy’s Marianna Lauro 6-1, 6-3, but German world No4 Sabine Ellerbrock went on to win their last eight contest 6-1, 6-2.

Shuker said: “I had two really close matches with Marjolein earlier in the season and had taken Sabine to three sets at the British Open at the end of July, but they both made good starts in Belgium and Austria and I wasn’t able to get back into either match.

“However I’ve maintained my world No9 ranking and, of course, it’s great to have won another ITF 1 doubles title.

“Now it’s back into another block of training and working hard for the Games.”
