Wellington secured the Shrubbery Somerset Cricket League title for 2012 when they obtained 28 points from this drawn game with Middlezoy last weekend.

With their nearest challengers – Ashbrittle and North Petherton – washed away, Paul Short ’s side are 43 points clear with one to play and cannot be caught.

They can now look forward to playing at the West of England Premier League Somerset level in 2013.

As for this game, it was a desire to play on the part of both sides that saw it start; one horrendous shower at 11am made the ground awash and the mopping up began, two more rain breaks saw 17 overs lost and Wellington were asked to bat.

Wellington amassed 202-6 with Alex Sparks hitting 49.

Middlezoy then saw out 28 overs for a draw and, by this point, Wellington had enough in the bag to know they were champions.

Very few matches were completed because of the weather at the weekend. But Watchet 1sts enjoyed a ten-wicket success over Belvedere 1sts in Division One.

L. Woolgrove and A. Pyne took four wickets apiece as Belvedere were dismissed for just 44. C. Sully (16no) and A. Bishop (31no) then steered Watchet to victory with the bat.

Trull drew their Division Five game with East Huntspill 1sts with 107 runs apiece.
