A GRADE Three Summer Tournament was held at Taunton Tennis Club.

A total of 283 entrants took part from eight years to adults with players coming from all over the country as far afield as Scotland.

During the six days 464 matches were played on the 12 indoor and outdoor courts.

Local successes were from Simon Woodhill, Taunton Tennis Club’s head coach, and Sophie Butland who beat Scott and Claire Duncan from Scotland in the mixed doubles final. Bethany Lacey and Sophie Butland did very well getting to the final in their age groups of Under-12s and Under-18s respectivley.

Sophie and Hayley Butland won the Under-18 Doubles final against Joanne and Alice from South Wales.

Robbie Broomhead is from Devon, but trains at Taunton Tennis Academy and came fourth in the Under-10 boys.

Taunton players taking part in the Under-Nine event were Tomas James and Robin Chandler-Payne In the Under-Eight event Taunton players were Esme knight, Iona Sydenham, Lydia Smith and Rohan Keyte. With Iona coming runner-up in the girls event.
