ASHILL’S Lucy Shuker and her partner Jordanne Whiley have set their sights on winning Paralympic bronze after suffering defeat in the women’s doubles semi-final yesterday afternoon. The British pairing came up short against Dutch No2 seeds Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot as they slipped to a 6-4, 6-3 loss on Eton Manor’s Centre Court. It was the second time Shuker had faced Griffioen after the Holland ace had knocked her out of the singles competition but the Taunton-based player refused to get too downhearted after the match. Shuker and Whiley will now regroup to face Thailand’s Sakhorn Khanthasit and Ratana Techamaneewat in the bronze medal play-off today and the 32-year-old said: “We played really well the first few games and we had chances throughout the match to get back in it. “We’re going to work so hard tomorrow to win that bronze. We’re the third seeds so we want to prove we can win a medal. “The crowd were amazing again and I love playing on Centre with them behind me.” Shuker and Whiley have lit up Eton Manor this week, reaching the last four pairings following a quarter-final victory against Germany’s Sabine Ellerbrock and Katharina Kruger. But after falling short against the experienced Dutch duo, Whiley added: “They are a top pair and we matched them a lot of the time. “We came here to win a medal and I'm still confident we can do that. We will re-focus and do the crowd proud tomorrow. “We've played well together this week but that was a tough one. I love playing with Lucy and we've built a great relationship as a pair.”
