THE Somerset County Indoor Women’s Bowling Association against Somerset Men’s County Patrons, held at Taunton Bowling Club, resulted in a win by the ladies by 25 shots 124-99.
The first match of two rink Somerset and Devon league was played at Taunton Deane and while the rink skipped by Dennis Buckingham went down heavily there was an exciting finish on the rink skipped my Muriel Coley who took six shots on the last end to win by one shot, the match score being 29-44.
The three rink away game against Honiton saw one rink lose by 27 shots that spelt a defeat by 50 shots to 73.
Another three rink away match at Madeira saw Taunton lose in spite of winning on two rinks, the 19 shot deficit on the third rink was enough to record a 56-64 loss.
The ladies (over 60s) contested the two rink Masons’ Trophy v British Cellophane and with one rink drawing and the other losing by five shots the game was lost.
Four losses on the trot was not a good period for Taunton, but the coming week sees two important County Club team matches, both against Ilminster, being the Denny Cup and The Egham Trophy.
