Wellington Bowling Club Men's Indoor League has been good for Wellington 2s but unhappily, not for Wellington 1.

The two teams met up in the first week. Paul Kelly, Geoff Jenkins, Mike Worden and Vernon Adams set about poor Wellington 1's, only allowing them seven shots, to win convincingly 18-7.

Not satisfied with that, Wellington 2s came up against a powerful Hemyock side. Brian Etherington, Geoff Jenkins and Terry Dickens won closely, 13-10.

A new team to the league this season, aptly named the “Newbees”, took on the experienced Wiveliscombe side led by Mike Groves. Nick Channon, Vic Horne, Derek Vile and Stuart Troake's Newbees put up a good fight but went down eventually 23-7.

Bill Heard's Old Codgers had a tough match against Ken Brown's Wellington 4s but managed a close win 17-13.

Codgers fielded a strong team in Don Wilson, Bill Brett, Bill Heard and Mark Phillips to seal Wellington 1's fate by 16 shots to 9 to take them into joint first place with Wellington 2.

Wiveliscombe were hoping for a second win to join the leaders, but ran into an in-form Wellington 4 team made up of Roger Peddle, Peter Swann, Derek Lane and Bob Codd who disposed of them in a close one, 17-11.

There were three interesting games in the Triples League. Two teams are playing particularly well. Flo Chown, Gilbert Chown and Shirley Phillips are in fine form for Hemyock and disposed of a dispirited Fivers team 19-4 to put them in top spot in the league.

Matt Geraghty's Beavers are also the team to beat this season winning handsomely against Bill Brett's Southsiders 19-8, placing them in top spot alongside Hemyock.

Julia Stanton, Laurie Greaves and Bob Codd's Nomads managed a close win over Mike Worden and Don and Brenda Wilson's Pilgrims 14-10.

Winn and Dennis Courtney, Gordon Wedlake and Mike Worden's YZEDs took up the top of the table spot in the Mixed League by beating Optimists 16-9.

Geoff Jenkins' Gumboots are wading along nicely too and a good win over third placed Harriers sees them in close contention at the top.

Ian Heard played well as Skip to lead his Buzzards to a good win over Hemyock 17-11 and Laurie Greaves' Demons won a close one against Matt Heraghty's Badgers 17 to 12 which moves them up into fourth place.
