Wellington Town maintained their fine form in the Somerset Under-18 league with a 7-1 home victory over Axbridge yesterday.

It was Axbridge, looking strong in defence at the start of the match, who took the lead after five minutes with a simple tap-in.

It took Wellington until the 20th minute to equalise through Conor Bryant after the Axbridge goalkeeper spilled the ball.

Bryant then hit the bar with a fierce drive - soon after the post - before putting Wellington in the lead in the 25th minute with a shot from the edge of the area into the bottom corner of the net.

Joe Conway then made it 3-1 after 40 minutes when he broke into the area to score.

Despite the heavy pitch, Wellington were playing some neat football and ended the first half well on top when Joe Conway made it 4-1 with a shot which hit both the post and the Axbridge goalkeeper on its way into the net.

Wellington continued to dominate the match in the first period of the second half but it was not until the 60th minute that they increased their lead, Jack Bryant burying a great cross from Conway.

Aaron Hawkings made it 6-1 in the 85 minute with a powerful header from a corner and Jack Vile wrapped up a great afternoon for Wellington after a goalmouth scramble.
