Somerset players started revving up for this year’s Vitality Blast competition by playing for the Second XI in two T20 matches this week, writes Richard Walsh.
On Monday against Worcestershire at Ombersley, the hosts chose to bat and were bowled out for 142 in 18.2 overs, Alfie Ogborne the bowler doing the damage ending with three for 15 from his 3.12 overs, while there were two each for Sonny Baker, Ben Green and Lewis Goldsworthy.
When the Cidermen replied, openers George Thomas and Will Smeed added 40 in 4.5 overs before Smeed was out for 26 off 15 balls. Goldsworthy went cheaply, after which Green joined Thomas and the pair remained together to see their side to victory in 14.2 overs without further loss.
Thomas ended unbeaten on 69 from 44 balls with three fours and five sixes, while Green ended not out 43 off 25 deliveries with three fours and three sixes.

After choosing to bat, the visitors found themselves 20 for three in the fourth over when Green joined Smeed, who between them added 90 for the fourth wicket in seven overs when Smeed was out for 49, which he scored off 24 balls and which included six fours and three sixes.
Two overs later, Green was out also for 49, which he scored from 28 deliveries and which included five fours and three sixes, after which Academy youngster Oscar Coleman hit 19 off seven balls with three fours and a six and Ogborne made an unbeaten 17 off 19 balls before the innings closed on 192 for nine.
